The Green State

I don't believe in the red state or the blue state.

This blog is run by an american who lives in scotland.

this blog loves: choice, atheism, universal healthcare, the american green party, the scottish national party, and puppies.

this blog dislikes: free market libertarianism, anti-choice propaganda, religion, and people who ask annoying questions for no apparent reason

i went to high school with this girl. her dad needs help.

A man from a Midwestern family. Dad a salesman, mom a housewife. Raised right. Paid in full his own college education. Went to work for his government. Met his wife. Established himself & raised 3 kids. Started a small business. Hired 3 employees. Worked hard. Sacrificed health and family for the greater good. Provided as best he could. But as a small business owner, $30k/yr for health care was not possible. He fed his family instead.

And now, this man, at 62, with no health insurance and who lost a foot to diabetes, was admitted on Monday for congestive heart failure, swollen bladder, had 3 blood transfusions, and is now being forced out of the hospital prematurely because he cannot afford the $3k bill he was handed while about to head down for testing. He refused any more tests, again so he could feed his family.

The man is my dad.

If you knew my parents, then it was probably through their kindness at one point or another. The memories everyone has is my dad who was willing to drive out of his way to take you home because your mom forgot to pick you up. The man who met you once and paid for your dinner because you were a friend of his kid. The man who dressed up as Santa so a class had a great last day before Christmas break. He always carries a quiet yet strong self. He is the man who will go out at 1am to get his child gingerale for their stomachache, when he too isn’t feeling well.

My parents had a tough 2012. My father is recovering from losing his foot, he had to close his business due to his lack of health, the house that sat in the family for over 30 years burnt to the ground. And yet, they keep surviving. They keep going. My dad inspires me. I want the world to see that he does the same for people. This selfless man never asks nor takes, we need to GIVE to him. The amount is modest. I only ask that he gets through next month with his medication and able to get the right care. His medication alone is $3500/month.

i know that everyone thinks ‘obamacare’ has somehow fixed everything, but it hasn’t. there are still millions of people falling through the cracks. this man needs help desperately. please help if you can!
